Chen Institute Partners with ISSCR to Establish Fellowship for Stem Cell Reports Early Career Editorial Board
Skokie, IL – The International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) is delighted to announce a partnership with the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute, establishing a fellowship program to support members of the Stem Cell Reports Early Career Editorial Board (ECEB). The program facilitates attendance at the ISSCR Annual Meeting, mentoring opportunities, and the development of scientific programs that will cultivate and deepen leadership skills.
The Chen Institute Fellowship is designed to directly support ECEB members financially and in career growth. Broadly, activities supported by the fellowship will aid in the international dissemination of noteworthy science.
“The ISSCR is thrilled to collaborate with the Chen Institute to create enriching career opportunities for young stem cell scientists around the world,” Haifan Lin, ISSCR President, said.
“This partnership recognizes the critical role that communications plays in furthering the stem cell field and the importance of nurturing a next generation of leaders,” Keith Alm, ISSCR CEO, said.
“We have always believed that supporting young, early-career scientists is important,” said Tianqiao Chen, a Founder of the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute. “Their energy and fresh thinking can help to accelerate research, which leads to new discoveries.”
The inaugural class of Stem Cell Reports Early Career Editorial Board comprises 10 distinguished early career scientists who were selected to serve the stem cell field by providing strategic advice, participating in the editorial review process, and through mentoring by current editors.
“The generous support from the Chen Institute Fellowship will enrich the experience and allow for even greater engagement of the ECEB members in our global stem cell community, beyond scientific publishing,” Martin Pera, Editor-Chief, Stem Cell Reports said. “My colleagues on the Editorial Team and I look forward to working with this outstanding group of young scientists.”

About the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute
The Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute (TCCI®) was created in 2016 by Tianqiao Chen and his wife Chrissy Luo, the founders of Shanda Group, with a US $1 billion commitment to help advance fundamental brain research around the world. The organization’s vision is to improve the human experience by understanding how our brains perceive, learn, and interact with the world.
TCCI® created the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute for Neuroscience at Caltech in 2016 with a US $115 million donation. In 2017, the couple committed CNY 500 million to create the Tianqiao Chen Institute for Translational Research, a partnership with the Zhou Liangfu Foundation, Huashan Hospital, and Shanghai Mental Health Center. In October 2020, TCCI opened the Chen Frontier Lab for Applied Neurotechnology, and the Chen Frontier Lab for AI and Mental Health opened in July 2021.
