ISSCR Launches New Podcast, The Stem Cell Report with Martin Pera

The Podcast Highlights the Stories Behind Impactful Science

The International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) unveils a new podcast today in connection with the Society’s open-access, peer-reviewed scientific journal, Stem Cell Reports. The Stem Cell Report with Martin Pera goes “beyond the paper” with authors to draw new insights and explore the questions and creativity that propel new breakthroughs.

“This podcast provides an exciting new dimension to our outreach into the scientific community,” said Martin Pera, PhD, Editor-in-Chief of Stem Cell Reports and an internationally recognized stem cell pioneer. “Discussing the inspiration and stories behind the research gives the papers we publish in the journal greater depth and a chance to share more about what drives stem cell scientists and their work.”

In the first episode, two pioneers in early mammalian development discuss their recent Perspective on stem cell-based embryo models: Janet Rossant, PhD, Hospital for Sick Children, the University of Toronto and the Gairdner Foundation, and Patrick Tam, PhD, Children’s Medical Research Institute and University of Sydney, Australia. Drs. Rossant and Tam, discuss new experimental approaches that can help advance the understanding of human development where insight is limited by technical and ethical issues. Their article is part of a Stem Cell Reports special issue on embryo models coming out in May that examines this rapidly emerging area of science.

“This podcast is an important new initiative by the ISSCR to engage our community, extend the reach of our journal, and offer a unique perspective on the advances in our field,” said Christine Mummery, PhD, ISSCR President.
